Magic Beyond Hogwarts, indeed: The latest update reports that the promised show on "Harry Potter" from Warner Bros. Studios is coming!

According to fresh information, originally announced last April, the project to reboot the beloved Harry Potter series by Warner Bros. Studios based on the original books by J.K. Rowling is moving closer to reality.

Here's What We Know

With "Harry Potter" being one of the most well-known and profitable brands in the Warner Bros. portfolio, it's no surprise that the studio is keen to revisit the franchise, despite the fact that the last original film wasn't released until 2011. While subsequent Fantastic Beasts prequels ultimately failed to replicate the incredible success of the films that served as their inspiration, Rowling's Magical World remains hugely popular and profitable, making it attractive for further exploration.

Late last month, reports emerged that Warner Bros. had begun accepting proposals from potential directorial leads to decide who would be in charge of the long-awaited project. And according to a new report from Deadline, the list of director candidates for the Harry Potter show is down to three names.

According to the report, Succession screenwriter Francesca Gardiner is now listed among the final three contenders, and that's after previous reports mentioned names like Martha Hillier for The Last Kingdom, Kathleen Jordan for Teenage Bounty Hunters, Tom Moran for The Devil's Hour, and Michael Lesslie for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes." It remains to be seen if these writers' names remain among the current top three finalists.

Whoever Warner Bros. ends up naming as the final choice will face the extremely difficult task of proving that the show is a worthy successor to the original films.

It has been suggested that the resources invested in bringing a Harry Potter show to fruition would likely exceed those spent on other groundbreaking fantasy series such as HBO's Game of Thrones.
