Looking for a colorful bluetooth speaker that doubles as mood lighting

Hey guys, I'm looking to add some fun to my living space with a Bluetooth speaker that also does cool lighting effects. I've seen these color-changing speakers online and they look pretty awesome.

I'm not after the cheapest option, but I don't want to spend a fortune either. Something mid-range would be great. Here's what I'm hoping to find:

Good sound quality for music and movies
Decent battery life for portability
Cool light effects that can sync with music
Waterproofing would be a plus for outdoor use

I'd use it mainly in my living room for hanging out and small get-togethers, but it'd be cool to take it outside sometimes too.

Has anyone tried these kinds of speakers? Any recommendations or brands I should look into? What features do you think are most important?

Oh man, those color-changing speakers are so cool! I saw one at a friend's party last month and it really set the mood. Just make sure you get one with decent sound quality - some prioritize looks over audio performance.

Have you considered how much space you have for the speaker? Some of these can be pretty big. Also, think about whether you want something portable or if it'll mostly stay in your apartment.

If you're serious about audio quality, check out the reviews on rtings.com. They do in-depth testing of speakers and have a section on party speakers with lighting effects. Might help you narrow down your choices.

Thanks for the tip! I've been eyeing the JBL Pulse 4. Has anyone here tried it? It seems to hit all of OP's requirements and the light show looks pretty epic.

JBL fan, huh? xD They're good, but have you seen the soundcore glow? It's usually cheaper than the JBL and the light show at the bottom is pretty sweet. Plus, the sound is surprisingly good for its size and it's fully waterproof.

Just a heads up, make sure whatever you choose is waterproof if you plan on taking it to the beach. Salt water and electronics don't mix well!

Am I the only one who thinks these light-up speakers are a bit... gimmicky? ))Don't get me wrong, they look cool, but maybe invest in a good speaker and some separate mood lighting?

@Bigben, both the jbl and soundcore options mentioned are solid. Maybe check out some YouTube reviews to see them in action before deciding?

Don't forget to check the app compatibility for whatever speaker you choose. Some have really cool customization options for the lights, but only if you use their app. Make sure it works with your phone!
