Subwoofer for record player - yes or no?

Sup guys, So I've fallen down the vinyl rabbit hole and now I'm obsessing over my setup. Got a decent turntable, amp, and some bookshelf speakers. It sounds pretty good, but I keep wondering if I'm missing out on some low end. Been thinking about adding a sub, but I'm clueless. Is this even a thing for turntables? I spin mostly rock and some electronic stuff. Room's decent size, like 15x20 ft maybe? Budget's around 500 bucks. What do you all think? Am I crazy for wanting a sub with vinyl?

First! ...sorry, couldn't resist. But for real, adding a sub to vinyl can be awesome if done right. Just gotta be careful not to overdo it. What kind of music you spinning most?

Not crazy at all. I added a sub to my setup last year and it's been awesome. Just gotta dial it in right or it'll sound like hot garbage.

Adding a subwoofer for vinyl can really enhance your listening experience. I use the SVS SB-1000 Pro with my turntable, and it's been amazing for rock and electronic music. Just make sure to balance it well with your main speakers.

Good shout. Another great option for a turntable subwoofer is the rel t/5x. It's designed specifically for music and works well in most record player setups.

When setting up a subwoofer for turntable, you'll want to set the crossover pretty low, around 60-80Hz. This lets your main speakers handle most of the work while the sub fills in the low end.

If you're looking for a solid subwoofer for turntable that won't empty your wallet, take a look at the klipsch r-120sw. It's got a good balance of punch and precision that works well with vinyl. I added one to my record player setup last year, and it's really filled out the low end on my rock and jazz records without overpowering the mids and highs.

Before splurging on the best subwoofer for vinyl, make sure you actually need one. What don't you like about your current sound?

If you're set on getting a record player subwoofer, look for one specifically made for music. They tend to be tighter and more controlled than home theater subs, which is crucial for vinyl playback.

Whatever you get, test it out first if you can. What sounds good on paper might sound like ass in your room.

Guys, are we just gonna ignore that OP mentioned a decent amp?How you liking it, OP? Might be worth upgrading that before adding a sub.

Don't forget to factor in cables and maybe a power conditioner. This hobby's a slippery slope, man.

Shhh, don't scare the newbie away xD But yeah, budget for the extras. A good sub cable can make a difference.

Honestly? Just try it. Grab a cheap used sub off Craigslist and see if you even like the sound. Can always upgrade later if you're into it.
