Why isn't vr gaming taking off despite its potential?

I've been thinking about VR gaming lately. It seems like it should be huge by now, but it's still kind of niche. I mean, we've got these amazing headsets with insane resolutions, hand tracking, and even eye tracking in some models. Games like "Half-Life: Alyx" and "Asgard's Wrath 2" show the potential for mind-blowing experiences. But when I talk to my gamer friends, most of them either don't own a VR headset or barely use the one they have. What's your take? Is VR gaming a flop, or are we just in the early stages of something that will eventually take over?

I love my Quest 3, but I gotta admit, I don't use it as much as I thought I would. It's amazing when I do, but sometimes it feels like too much effort compared to just grabbing a controller.

It's like, do I want to clear space, set up guardians, and hope my battery is charged, or do I just want to flop on the couch and play some Fortnite?

I think we're still in the early stages. Remember how clunky and limited early smartphones were? VR is in a similar place. Give it time.

Time? It's been years already. I think the problem is deeper - maybe people just don't want to be that immersed all the time. Sometimes you want to game while half-watching TV, you know?

I actually prefer my PSVR2. It's not as portable as the Quest, but for sit-down games, it's super comfortable. Still, I only use it for specific games, not as my main gaming device.

Let's be real, the barrier to entry is still too high. You need a decent PC or a standalone headset, plus space to use it. It's not just plug and play like a console.

True, but have you tried the latest headsets? They're getting so much better. I think we're close to a tipping point where the experience outweighs the hassle.

Am I the only one who gets motion sick? I wanted to love VR, but after 20 minutes, I feel like I'm on a rollercoaster. Not in a good way.

Have you tried adjusting the IPD (interpupillary distance) on your headset? I had terrible motion sickness until I got that dialed in correctly.

Just found a sick article on draw & code about the future of vr gaming. Check it out if you wanna geek out on the future of vr!

I think we're overlooking content. Half-Life: Alyx was mind-blowing, but how many games of that caliber do we have? We need more AAA titles to drive adoption.

Totally agree about the need for more AAA titles. I read an interview with some big-name game developers in Game Informer last month, and they were saying that the install base just isn't there yet for them to justify the investment. It's frustrating because we need those games to grow the user base, but the user base needs to grow to get those games. Classic catch-22.

It's a chicken and egg problem. Developers won't invest in big VR titles without a large user base, but users won't buy in without great games. Someone needs to break the cycle.

All this talk about games and tech, but can we address the elephant in the room? These things are still not comfortable for long sessions. Wake me up when they're as light as regular glasses.
