Raytheon will increase AIM-9X Sidewinder production to 2,500 aircraft missiles per year

The US Department of Defence is investing millions of dollars to ramp up production of key munitions. These include the AIM-9X Sidewinder aircraft missiles.

Here's What We Know

The manufacturer of the AIM-9X is the American company Raytheon. A few days ago, it received funding from the US Department of Defence to increase production of the aircraft missiles.

The Pentagon allocated $74.8 million for works that will allow the company to produce 2,500 missiles annually. The contract runs until July 2026. The list of facilities includes Raytheon plants in various US states, including Vermont, Connecticut, West Virginia, Arizona and California, where more than 60 per cent of the work will be performed.

The funding comes after the company was awarded $263.7m to produce and deliver 619 AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II missiles. Customers included the US Air Force, US Navy and foreign customers.
