Boeing will build a TDI-J85 turbojet-powered P-JDAM kit to turn conventional bombs into cruise missiles

Boeing is working on a Powered Joint Direct Attack Munition (P-JDAM) kit. The company has found an engine supplier.

Here's What We Know

A conventional JDAM kit is a wings and tail unit that houses navigation equipment. The P-JDAM will use a turbojet engine that will increase range.

Boeing has decided to use TDI-J85 turbojet engines. They have a thrust of 90kg. The supplier of the small engines will be Kratos Defence & Security Solutions.

At the moment Boeing does not disclose the launch range of the bomb equipped with the P-JDAM kit. However, the company says that the radius compared to a conventional JDAM will increase by 20 times. Essentially, the P-JDAM kit will turn a simple bomb into a cruise missile.
