Ukraine has created and successfully used a brand new missile with a launch range of 700 kilometres
Ukraine has a completely new missile that can hit targets within a radius of 700 kilometres. And it has already been successfully used. The image above is a screenshot from today's video, which was published in honour of Rocket Troops and Artillery Day and shows the ATACMS launch.
Here's What We Know
We learnt about the new means of defeat more than two months ago. On the last day of summer, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the successful use of a long-range weapon of his own production.
At the time, it was believed to be a long-range kamikaze drone, as the announcement coincided with a strike on a Russian airport 700 kilometres from the Ukrainian border. The attack managed to destroy four Il-76 aircraft.
However, we are dealing with a missile. This was stated by Brigadier General Serhii Baranov, head of the Main Directorate of Missile Troops, Artillery and Unmanned Systems of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
It is not yet known what kind of missile Ukraine has managed to create (ballistic or cruise), but improvement work is ongoing. According to the brigadier general, specialists are working to improve the accuracy and range of the missile's launch.
