Ukraine's defence forces have destroyed a very rare Russian S-300V4 system that can shoot down ballistic missiles
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have destroyed a new Russian S-300V4 surface-to-air missile system. This was reported by Oleksandr Tarnavskyy, commander of the Tavriya operational-strategic grouping of troops.
Here's What We Know
The S-300V4 is a new Russian air and missile defence system. It was adopted into service less than 10 years ago. The surface-to-air missile system can cope not only with aerodynamic targets, but also with ballistic missiles.
The maximum speed of defeated air threats is 4.5 kilometres per second. The S-300V4 division can simultaneously destroy two dozen targets. The launch range of the anti-aircraft missile is 400 km and the altitude range is from 25 metres to 30 km.
The air and missile defence system uses 48N6E interceptors with semi-active homing heads. The S-300V4 surface-to-air missile system includes a 9A83 (9A83M) launcher, as well as 9S19M2 and 9S15M radar stations.
