The Russians again claimed that Ukraine was using the latest TOS-2 "Tosochka" heavy flamethrower system with thermobaric missiles, but again without evidence
In late spring 2022, Russian media reported the first use of the TOS-2 "Tosochka" heavy flamethrower system in Ukraine. Nearly a year and a half later, they again wrote about the use of the system, and again did not provide any evidence.
Here's What We Know
If the heavy flamethrower system was indeed used in combat, it could mean that the final stage of development is approaching and the system is moving to mass production. However, Russian state media and propagandists often give wishful thinking.
The TOS-2 Tosochka is a heavy flamethrower system that debuted three years ago in an exercise. It is the successor to the TOS-1A system and is characterised by improved technical parameters. The TOS-2 uses thermobaric missiles of 220 mm calibre. The launch range is not specified, but it has been increased compared to the TOS-1A (10 kilometres).
The heavy flamethrower system received automated targeting and fire control systems. Due to the integrated crane-manipulator it was possible to abandon the transport-loading vehicle. The chassis is Ural-6370 with four-wheel drive and armoured cab.
