Raytheon unveils RAIVEN artificial intelligence threat detection system for Black Hawk drones and helicopters

Raytheon has developed an artificial intelligence-based system that can automatically detect and identify threats. The development is designed primarily for drones and is called RAIVEN.

The system consists of optical cameras, LiDAR and spectral cameras. The artificial intelligence can detect and identify aerial threats in real time. According to Raytheon, RAIVEN has increased range and accuracy compared to existing systems.

The artificial intelligence works autonomously and reduces the workload for the operator, who will be able to concentrate on controlling the drone. RAIVEN is designed to increase the survivability of the drone and improve decision-making speed.

Flight tests of the new system are scheduled for next year. The US Army will be the first operator of RAIVEN. The debut version of the system is called RT-1000. Although primarily aimed at drones, Raytheon intends to use its development in Black Hawk helicopters.
