Ubisoft disappointed with Assassin's Creed Nexus sales results and suspends investment in VR games
Few people already remember, but in November 2023, the VR game Assassin's Creed Nexus was released for Meta Quest devices.
And although the game turned out to be good overall, its sales disappointed the developers from Ubisoft.
Here's What We Know
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot during a conversation with investors openly admitted that the sales figures for Assassin's Creed Nexus VR were far below the company's expectations. Because of the poor results, the management of the French publisher decided to cancel plans to expand investment in games for virtual reality devices and focus on traditional projects for PC and consoles.
Guimault's statement looks somewhat ironic against the background of insider information from Tom Henderson that even before the release of Assassin's Creed Nexus VR the company was so confident in the success of the project that it started pre-production of its sequel. It's likely that this project has already been cancelled.
However, Yves Guimault does not exclude that with the development of VR-technologies and, most importantly, the popularisation of such devices, Ubisoft will return to the development of this direction.
