Lithuania raises 14 million euros for radars for Ukraine - almost three times more than planned

Lithuania has summed up the fundraising for the purchase of radars for the Ukrainian air defence system. Initially organizers planned to raise 5 million euros, but the final amount turned out to be almost three times as much - 14 million euros.

"As the anniversary of the widespread war approached, LRT together with Blue/Yellow, Laisvės TV, 1K fondas and Stiprūs kartu ("Strong Together") invited us to unite and take part in the RADAROM campaign. The funds raised during the campaign were used to purchase functional tactical radars," according to the organisers' website.

The purpose of the radars is to monitor the airspace around objects of strategic importance to Ukraine, such as power plants, water towers, etc., which help to ensure the maximum normal life of Ukrainians during wartime. The cost of one radar installation is around €1 million.

"14 000 000 euro from Lithuanians to buy radars to defend Ukraine. In four weeks. That’s it from us. For now. We will be back", one of the organizers of the collection, journalist Andrius Tapinas, wrote on Twitter.
