Germany will not build a tank repair plant in Poland for the Leopard 2 of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
Last week, it was reported that Germany and Poland could not agree on opening a centre for repairing Ukrainian Leopard 2 tanks. According to new reports, Berlin is pulling out of the negotiations.
Here's What We Know
According to the Handelsblatt edition, Germany has abandoned the idea of opening a tank repair centre in Poland. The reason is not yet specified, but it is possible that the decision is due to the inflated cost of services.
Negotiations were held between Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), Rheinmetall and Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ). Der Spiegel newspaper wrote that the Polish firm wants to receive more than €100,000 for tank diagnostics, while in Germany this service costs approximately €12,000.
The German Defence Ministry has not yet commented on the information about the withdrawal from the negotiations. In its last statement so far, the ministry said that negotiations were continuing.
