The Ukrainian Defence Forces already have modernised T-64BV tanks of the 2022 model in service. Recently, a video showing the passage of several combat vehicles appeared on social networks.

Here's What We Know

The footage shows six tanks. One of them is a T-64BVK of the sample of 2021. The absence of machine guns hints that the video was shot not at the front, but at a firing range.

The 2022 model upgrade is an evolution of the 2017 and 2019 upgrades. It brought the TPN-1TPV sight with thermal imaging. The new optics allows to detect targets up to 6 kilometres away at any time and under any weather conditions.

The T-64BV tanks of the 2022 model are equipped with a digital radio manufactured by L3 Harris and a CH-4215 digital navigation device. Anti-shock shields are provided to protect the engine room.

The emergence of modern sights made it possible to abandon the infrared searchlight "Luna". Its place was reinforced with dynamic protection. It should also be noted that there is an armoured panel to protect the commander's machine gun and external fuel tanks.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces first showed the modernised tanks at the beginning of last month. Probably, the upgrade to the level of T-64BV of the 2022 model is subject to damaged combat vehicles, which were sent for repair.
