Lockheed Martin has given the Pentagon its first software package for a next-generation intercontinental ballistic missile interceptor

U.S. defense company Lockheed Martin has delivered the first software package for its next-generation interceptor to the U.S. Department of Defense.

Here's What We Know

The new technology is designed to increase the security of the United States against threats from intercontinental ballistic missiles. Lockheed Martin notes that the specialists were able to develop the product for the Pentagon a month ahead of the established deadline. With the release of the first software package, the NGI (Next Generation Interceptor) team at Lockheed Martin will continue to work on improvements for implementation in the next iteration of the software.

The Next Generation Interceptor supports an advanced Lockheed technology called hit-to-kill. It allows it to identify the launch of an enemy missile, determine its target, calculate its route, launch an anti-missile, and then direct it to destroy the flying missile in midair. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2027.
