British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is preparing to sign an agreement with Italy and Japan to develop a sixth-generation fighter jet for the Royal Air Force.

The Tempest will be the most advanced fighter in British history. It will enter service in 2035, replacing the Eurofighter Typhoon, which was developed by Britain, Spain, Germany and Italy.
The United Kingdom will soon sign contracts with Japan and Italy to jointly develop the Tempest. In the future, two more countries could join the project: India and Sweden. Negotiations are already underway.
The British government plans to invest £2 billion ($2.45 billion) in the development of the new aircraft over the next four years. The companies BAE Systems, Leonardo UK, MBDA UK and Rolls-Royce are working on the project. The sixth generation fighter will be able to operate in manned and unmanned modes, control a swarm of drones to break through enemy defenses and will be able to carry modern weapons, including hypersonic missiles.
