USA can't transfer ATACMS ballistic missiles to Ukraine due to long-range missile shortages
Talks about giving Ukraine long-range ATACMS missiles, with which the M142 HIMARS can hit targets at a distance of 300km, are eight months old. According to Politico, the US is unable to send ballistic missiles to Ukraine due to a shortage of long-range missiles.
Here's What We Know
US President Joe Biden's administration, in a conversation with Ukrainian authorities, has said it is unable to deliver ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles for the M142 HIMARS highly mobile artillery missile systems. The White House is concerned that the United States will not have enough ATACMS to meet its own needs.
Sending ballistic missiles to Ukraine would undermine the U.S. military's readiness for future combat operations. Another reason is that with ATACMS, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be able to strike at Russian territory, which is of concern to U.S. authorities.
Ukraine is looking for other ways to get ATACMS. In particular, to purchase from other countries. Poland, Greece, Romania, Turkey, Qatar, Bahrain and South Korea have tactical ballistic missiles for the M142 HIMARS.
