The Netherlands did not send CH-47D Chinook helicopters to Ukraine, but sold them to private US company Billings Flying Services
In March, it became known that the Netherlands might hand over CH-47D Chinook helicopters to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The second option was to sell them to an American company. In the end it was chosen.
Here's What We Know
The Royal Dutch Air Force has announced the sale of six CH-47D Chinook helicopters. The buyer is Billings Flying Services, a private US company with an office in Billings, Montana.
The European country's Ministry of Defence has decided to upgrade its fleet of helicopters as part of the Chinook Vervanging & Modernisering project. The CH-47D Chinook will be replaced by the CH-47F. The Netherlands ordered 26 helicopters, the first of which was delivered in mid-spring 2021.
Following the arrival of the CH-47Fs, the Netherlands began disposing of the older helicopters. The Royal Air Force previously sold four CH-47Ds to Coulson Aviation of Portland, Oregon, a firefighting company. Some of the helicopters that cannot be sold will be used for training and exercises.
The sold Chinooks will be used for firefighting, cargo transport and relief work in disaster areas. Billings Flying Services currently operates eight CH-47D helicopters that were purchased from the US Army.
