The US may have sent a second batch of M142 HIMARS high-mobility artillery rocket systems to Syria
In May, a number of publications reported that the US had deployed M142 high-mobility artillery rocket systems in Syria. Now Mehr News writes that a new batch of HIMARS has arrived in the country.
Here's What We Know
The United States may have transferred the HIMARS to the Syrian Democratic Forces. They control the northeastern and eastern regions of the country, where at least 900 U.S. troops are now stationed.
The M142 HIMARS is a robust defence capability because it can provide rapid response to emerging ground threats. The highly mobile artillery system can use precision-guided projectiles and ballistic missiles with a maximum launch range of nearly 300 kilometres.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the transfer of an unspecified number of M142 HIMARS to its allied forces in Syria in the spring. CENTCOM has not yet commented on information about the arrival of a new batch of missile systems in the country.
