Nothing lasts forever: Apple explained why it stopped supporting iOS 14 and deprived users of a choice

Last week we wrote that Apple seems to have ended support for iOS 14 - the last security update for this version of the operating system was released in October. Now the company itself has explained what happened and how iOS 14 users should proceed.

It was temporary

For those who are not in the know, he explains: after the release of iOS 15, Apple promised that it would give users the choice to stay on iOS 14 or upgrade to 15th versions:

“You can upgrade to the latest iOS 15 as soon as it's released to get the latest features and the most comprehensive set of security updates. Or keep using iOS 14 and still Get important security updates until you're ready to upgrade to the next major version"

Now, apparently, Apple has decided that the time has come and has practically stopped supporting iOS 14. The company has confirmed that there will be no more security updates for the operating system. iOS 15.2.1 is currently the only update option for all iPhones running iOS 14.

Obviously, in this way Apple is trying voluntarily-compulsorily to encourage users to switch to iOS 15, which has not become as popular as expected. According to a recent report, iOS 15‌ is installed on just 72% of devices over the past four years, which is a markedly lower adoption rate than we've seen with previous versions of iOS.
