Ukrainian paratroopers shot down enemy Orlan-10 and Horizon Air S-100 UAVs with Stinger and Starstreak MANPADS

The Command of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports the defeat of two Russian unmanned aerial vehicles with the help of Starstreak and Stinger MANPADS.

What is known

On April 19, Ukrainian soldiers destroyed the Orlan-10 multi-role unmanned aerial vehicle and the Horizon Air S-100 multi-role unmanned aerial vehicle. The first is used for air reconnaissance and fire adjustment.

The second UAV is focused on monitoring surface and ground space. By the way, "Horizon Air S-100" is the Russian name for the Camcopter S-100 drone, developed by the Austrian company Schiebel with the participation of the German company Diehl BGT Defense.

"It should be noted that the servicemen of the anti-aircraft missile units of the Assault Troops continue to masterfully shoot down quite expensive enemy air reconnaissance equipment. The airspace in the areas of our responsibility is under the full control of the air defense units of the Air Defense Forces, ”the command of the Air Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Starstreak MANPADS

It will be recalled that Starstreak is a British MANPADS designed to destroy helicopters and aircraft at low altitudes (5 km). The complex has missiles 1.39 m long and weighing 14 kg, and a range of up to 6 km. In addition to the United Kingdom and Ukraine, Starstreak is used by the armed forces of South Africa, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Stinger MANPADS

As for the Stinger, it is an American-made portable anti-aircraft missile system. It is focused on the destruction of low-flying (up to 3.8 km) UAVs, aircraft and helicopters. The missile is 1.52 m long, 7 cm in diameter and has a range of 200 m to 4.5 km.
