Counterpoint: Honor took the place of Huawei in the Chinese market and overtook Xiaomi in sales
Analyst firm Counterpoint has published a report on smartphone sales in China for the first 3 months of 2022, which shows the rapid growth of Honor.
Who is in the lead?
So, in just 3 months, 74.2 million smartphones were shipped in China, which is 14% less than in the same period last year. But the Honor brand showed good results, which, against the backdrop of US sanctions and independence, took the place of its former parent company, Huawei. Now the share of Honor is 17%, although last year it was a modest 5%. At the same time, Huawei's share fell from 15% to 6.2%, leaving the manufacturer only 6th in the overall list. At the same time, Honor now occupies the 4th line, having overtaken not only Huawei, but also another major Chinese player, Xiaomi (14.9% and 5th place among manufacturers).
As for the leaders, Vivo has ousted fellow OPPO and regained the top spot in the market, although the market share has declined to 19.7%. Counterpoint Research analysts attribute the strong performance to selfie-focused sales of the vivo S12 and S12 Pro, as well as affordable Y-series phones (e.g. Y76s, Y31s).
OPPO's share fell from 22.4% to 18% over the year, so the company is now in second place. Following is Apple with a share of 17.9%. The iPhone 13 was the best-selling phone in China for the quarter, analysts said, although demand for the 13 series has slumped since launch.
