Poland handed over to Ukraine 155 mm self-propelled guns AHS Krab: the main facts about the Polish self-propelled howitzer
As part of international military assistance, Poland transferred 155-millimeter AHS Krab self-propelled artillery mounts to Ukraine.
general facts
SAU Krab is a modern Polish self-propelled howitzer, which is placed on a tracked chassis and has a turret layout. In front of the hull is the power plant and control compartment, in the middle and rear of the hull is the fighting compartment. In this regard, the machine is no fundamentally different from most modern self-propelled guns of similar calibers: the British AS-90, the Korean K9 Thunder or the German PzH 2000.
The maximum speed of the ACS on asphalt roads is 60 km/h, on flat terrain - up to 30 km/h, off-road the maximum speed is reduced to 15 km/h. The power reserve of a self-propelled howitzer is 400 km.
The power plant of this self-propelled guns is a German diesel engine MT 881 Ka-500. The main weapon of the Polish howitzer is a 155-mm cannon with a barrel length of 52 calibers. The maximum rate of fire of the gun is 6 rounds per minute. Shooting with a series of shells is available - a self-propelled gun can fire 3 shells in 10 seconds. At the same time, the practical rate of fire in combat conditions, under which the crew will be able to work effectively for a long time, is 2 rounds per minute.
In addition to the main armament, a large-caliber 12.7-mm anti-aircraft machine gun and 2 × 4 smoke grenade launchers of 81 mm caliber are installed on the Crab self-propelled gun turret. The howitzer's ammunition load is 40 shells, 29 of which are stored in the turret of the combat vehicle, and 11 in the hull. The time to bring the ACS from the derivative to the combat position is approximately 30 seconds. This is how much time a self-propelled howitzer needs to change position after a shot.
