Russia is considering buying Iranian Shahed drones that can carry high-precision missiles

This week, the U.S. said Russia is considering the purchase of Iranian drones. As it became known, representatives of the Russian Federation visited Iran and studied the capabilities of two drones.

What is known

This was reported by Jay Sullivan, national security advisor to the United States. Despite the fact that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran denied information about deliveries of drones to Russia, the US believes that Iranian government will still send several hundred combat-ready UAVs to Russia.

In particular, we are talking about drones Shahed-191 and Shahed-129, each of which can carry high-precision missiles. Last month, Iran demonstrated the capabilities of unmanned aerial vehicles to a Russian delegation at the Kashan airfield near Tehran. The Russians visited Iran again in early July.

Shahed-191 is a drone that was developed based on the captured drone RQ-170 Sentinel in 2011. It has an autonomy of up to 270 minutes and can fly up to 450 km. The drone is optionally equipped with bombs Sadid-342.

Shahed-129 can carry a guided munition Sadid-345. The drone can stay in the air for 24 hours. It looks like MQ-9 Reaper.
