The Pixel 6 finger scanner controversy with random finger unlocks appeared on the new Pixel 6a

Some Pixel 6a units sent to critics earlier this month allowed them to access the phone using fingers that were not registered. While scrappy screen protectors were to blame for the Pixel 6 problem, random finger unlocks appear to be happening all too readily on the Pixel 6a. As you can see in the video, just a strange person's unregistered finger is enough to open the phone on that particular device.

Some consumers have noted that Google has been sending non-retail units for early reviews, which might explain why some people are reporting debris in the sealed box and scratches on the plastic back and camera bezel. Still, not every unit is displaying the random fingerprint unlocks, and the Pixel 6a should this time around have a superior finger scanner than the one on the Pixel 6, which is said to be different (read: faster) than it was previously.
