Samsung added a special "secret" mode for smartphones that are turned in for service
Samsung has introduced a new Repair Mode for its smartphones.
What is this?
It's a special mode for devices that need to be sent to a service center. Users usually reset the phone before doing so, so that personal information doesn't fall into the wrong hands. And this creates problems with having to first back up your data and then restore it.
Repair Mode solves this problem. Once it is activated in the settings, the gadget reboots and hides all personal data, including photos, messages, accounts, and even apps (only the default apps will be active).
Once the repair is complete, you just need to scan your fingerprint or enter a picture key, which will reboot the smartphone again and restore all data. Any settings that the technician changed during the repair will also be restored.
Repair Mode will be available for the Galaxy S21 series through a software update. Samsung writes that it plans to "extend it to some other models in the future."
However, so far the mode has only been announced in South Korea, so it is likely that the feature will initially be available only in the home market.
