Get the Message: Google trolls Apple in its massive online and city billboard advertising campaign
Google launched a major "Get The Message" ad campaign this week, with Apple as the primary recipient.
What does this mean?
So, the billboards easily recognize the standard messaging chat. Its main appeal is for Apple to abandon the old MMS standard and introduce RCS (Rich Communication Services).
Indeed, Apple's main appeal is that it's not just a chat room.
The point is that because of the old MMS standard, text messages from Android to iPhone have reduced image resolution and a blue-green bubble phenomenon. With the tranfer to RCS, iPhone and Android users sending text messages to one another will experience read notifications, input indicators, data forwarding, higher-resolution video and pictures, and improved group chats.
The ad campaign is already gaining traction on digital platforms like YouTube, Twitter, and TikTok, as well as on social networks with some celebrity endorsements. And now billboards have started appearing in New York City. They feature "Help Apple #GetTheMessage" and a link leading to Android.com.
"The goal of this campaign is a clear call for Apple to finally join us in implementing the latest messaging standards that provide the best messaging experience for everyone, on both iOS and Android," said Adrienne Lofton, global vice president of integrated marketing, platforms and ecosystems.
