Microsoft warned of an attack by Russian hackers on NATO countries
Microsoft's Threat Intelligence Center published a report on the SEABORGIUM phishing campaign, which has its roots in Russia.
What we know
According to the U.S. company, Russian hackers are preparing a new cyberattack. Microsoft said that SEABORGIUM works in the interests of the Russian federation and is focused on stealing confidential information.
Since the beginning of this year, Microsoft specialists have analyzed hacker attacks on more than three dozen organizations. SEABORGIUM was aimed at Ukrainian government sector, but now the priority for hackers is NATO countries, especially Great Britain, the United States, as well as Scandinavian countries, Eastern Europe and the Baltic States.
Microsoft notes that SEABORGIUM activity is aimed at stealing data from defense, intelligence and consulting companies, as well as from think tanks and intergovernmental organizations. Hackers send messages with malicious links. When a user clicks on the link, they encounter the EvelGinx phishing platform, and the attackers capture credentials and redirect the person to the site to complete the interaction.
Microsoft recommends using the built-in free Windows Defender antivirus to keep personal data safe. You should also activate the automatic zero hour cleanup in MS Office 365. This will quarantine and neutralize malicious links already received.
