United Airlines grounded 25 Boeing 777-200 planes due to non-compliance with mandatory inspections
U.S. carrier United Airlines is forced to suspend operations of 25 Boeing 777-200 aircraft because they failed to pass mandatory front wing panel inspections.
Here's What We Know
United Airlines notified the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration of the problem after conducting an internal audit and proposed a plan to complete the inspections. The carrier was forced to flag 18 flights Monday and Tuesday.
United Airlines completed inspections of 10 aircraft. The company said it was working with the Federal Aviation Administration to get the remaining aircraft back into service as soon as possible. The inspections will continue over the next two weeks.
This is not the first problem United Airlines has had with the Boeing 777. In 2020, an engine failed on a plane going to Honolulu. There were no fatalities as a result, but the engine debris fell on populated areas near the airport. As a result, the airline suspended operations of 52 aircraft equipped with Pratt & Whitney 4000 engines for two years.
