The Ukrainian Armed Forces showed the launch of the Swedish RBS-17 guided anti-ship missile at a ground target
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have demonstrated how they use Swedish RBS-17 anti-ship missiles to strike enemy ground targets.
Here's What We Know
The Ukrainian Defense Forces received 17 sets of RBS-17 anti-ship missile systems as part of the third military aid package from Stockholm. The Ministry of Defense of Sweden announced about their transfer as far back as at the end of the first half of the current year.
RBS-17 is an improved version of the AGM-114 Hellfire anti-tank guided missile. In contrast to the Hellfire, which is carried by unmanned aircraft such as the MQ-1C Gray Eagle, or by helicopters, the Swedish missile is launched from ships or compact launchers. The latter variant, in fact, was demonstrated by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The anti-ship missile is equipped with a 9 kg warhead and has a range of 9 km. The total mass is 48 kg. It can be used as an anti-tank missile. In flight, the RBS-17 reaches a speed of about 1600 km/h (M=1.3). Guidance is performed by a laser beam.
