Tesla has refused to produce the 4680 battery in Germany due to high production costs

The Type 4680 batteries for Tesla's electric cars will not be produced at the plant in Germany. This was reported by Reuters news agency, which refers to a spokesman for the Brandenburg Ministry of Economics.

Tesla has postponed the launch of mass production of the Type 4680 battery in Germany several times. It is learnt that the company will continue to produce traction battery components in Germany, but assembly will take place in the US. This is due to lower production costs due to federal subsidies.

Elon Musk's company has not commented on the German official's words yet. It should be noted that Tesla initially wanted to roll out production of batteries with a total capacity of 50 GWh in Germany.

In the U.S., two Tesla facilities in California and Texas are producing batteries type 4680. Moreover, the California factory is able to almost fully meet American demand. In the future, production of battery cells will be launched at a new plant in Nevada. The company will invest $3.6 billion.
