Xiaomi unveils 'powerbank for the internet' with capacities of 4, 8 and 16 gigabytes

Xiaomi has released an innovative device that it's positioning as a "power bank for the internet" that allows it to accumulate internet the way power banks accumulate energy. The novelty can connect to a Wi-Fi network to accumulate internet (and serves as an access point that distributes the accumulated traffic), and it can also use the built-in Ethernet connector to do so.

The novelty will be available in three modifications with different capacities: 4, 8 and 16 gigabytes of data. Advertised prices in China are RMB 299, RMB 399 and RMB 499 respectively. This is equivalent to amounts of 1,600, 2,150 and 2,700 hryvnia. Xiaomi expects to sell these devices in collaboration with mobile operators, which could help the company's smartphones enter the US and European carrier markets. It could potentially be the kind of breakthrough technology that will completely destroy the existing mobile router market, because it will allow you to carry a device that is not directly dependent on operator network coverage and current mobile network load. Such an "Internet Powerbank" will connect up to 8 gadgets via Wi-Fi or a laptop via Ethernet, providing a reliable and stable connection of 1 Gbps for an Ethernet connection and 300 Mbps for Wi-Fi.

The company plans to sell 2 million such devices by the end of 2023. There is no word yet on deliveries to Ukraine or on the expected price. Follow our news - the gg editorial team promises to keep you informed.
