Batteries in Tesla Model X and Model S degrade more than before - batteries lose 12% of capacity after 322,000km

Tesla has shared a new report with fresh statistics regarding battery degradation in the Model X and Model S electric cars. As it turns out, the batteries are losing more capacity than indicated in an identical report from the previous year.

The new report only affects the two electric vehicle models and the lithium-ion batteries. In the future, Tesla plans to share information on the capacity loss of other batteries in the rest of its electric vehicles.

According to official information, the batteries in the Tesla Model S and Model X lose 12% of capacity after 322,000 km (200,000 miles). The previous report indicated that the batteries degraded by 10% at identical mileage.

On the other hand, electrek cites its own statistics based on more than 100,000 Tesla electric cars. Thus, a 90 kWh battery degrades at a much higher rate than an 85 kWh unit. According to electrek, the batteries in the Model Y and Model 3 will lose up to 10% at 161,000 km (100,000 miles) and less than 15% after 322,000 km.
