Ukrainian tankers begin training programme to use German Leopard 1 tanks

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have begun learning to use German Leopard 1 tanks.

Here's What We Know

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius shared the information in an interview with the Spanish publication La Vanguardia. We are talking about 100 servicemen. The training programme was launched this week.

Ukraine will receive a total of 100 Leopard 1 tanks: 80 this year and 20 next year. The first deliveries of combat vehicles will begin in May or June.

Flashback

The transfer of German Leopard 1 tanks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces became possible thanks to an agreement between Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands. The tanks are currently undergoing refurbishment. The company Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft (FFG) is engaged in it. By the way, apart from tanks, Ukraine will also receive ammunition and spare parts.
