Two rare Mi-8MTPR-1 electronic warfare helicopters shot down in russian airspace

Today we wrote that two fighter jets and two helicopters were shot down on Russian territory. Now there is more information.

Here's What We Know

One of the downed helicopters was definitely an Mi-8 and the other could have been another Mi-8, Mi-24 or Mi-28N. In both cases it is known that Mi-8s were shot down, but not simple ones, but rare modifications of the MTPR-1 radio-electronic warfare helicopter.

Mi-8MTRP-1 helicopters are designed to jam enemy aircraft and anti-aircraft missile systems. For this purpose they are equipped with an active jamming station Rychag-AV. It is designed to protect both aircraft and ground targets.

The complex does not allow the use of aviation and anti-aircraft missiles within a radius of more than 100 km. As we can see, it did not work this time. The helicopters were at a distance of about 50 km from the Russian-Ukrainian border.

As for the Mi-8MTRP-1s themselves, they are not very expensive. The cost of each helicopter with the Rychag-AV active jamming station is no more than $10 million.
