Earlier this month, Starfield director Todd Howard confirmed that the game will only run at 4K 30 fps on the Series X and 1440p 30 fps on the Series S on Xbox consoles. Of course, this fact caused a flurry of criticism: for example, popular YouTuber DreamGuy suggested in a now-deleted tweet that this could be a sign of an unfinished game, but Santa Monica senior artist Dannie Carlone disagrees with this assessment.
Here's What We Know
"I want to make it clear, it's not a sign of an unfinished game," Carlone said, "it's a choice. He added: "60 frames per second at this scale would be a big blow to visual fidelity. I assume they want to get a flawless look and less 'pop'. And of course, [it's] your right to not like the choice."
Game dev here, big fan btw. Wanted to clarify It's not a sign of an unfinished game. It's a choice. 60fps on this scale would be a big hit to the visual fidelity. My guess is they want to go for a seamless look and less "pop in". And of course your right to dislike the choice

Responding to another follower who then asked him if the game needed a 4K resolution, Carlone replied that while some games offer a performance mode that lowers the resolution in favour of a higher frame rate, Bethesda seems to have decided that visual detail is its priority.
DreamcastGuy then backtracked, apologising for his tweet and saying: "I still wish the game was 60fps on consoles, but now I understand why it's not, at least for now."
