Sega CEO calls "play to earn" blockchain games boring
According to Bloomberg, SEGA is temporarily suspending the release of blockchain games, but completely rejects the use of the technology:
"The action in play-to-earn games is boring. What’s the point if games are no fun?"
Here's What We Know
SEGA is best known for its Sonic the Hedgehog character and it allows third-party partners to create NFT games using some of its franchises, including Three Kingdoms and Virtua Fighter. However, it is currently refraining from associating its most popular characters with blockchain titles to avoid potentially undermining its intellectual property:
"We’re looking into whether this technology is really going to take off in this industry, after all"
Despite the waning interest in blockchain games, SEGA still plans to continue investing in the field, although the chances of it becoming popular with a wider audience in the future are still difficult to predict.
