USS Ralph Johnson and HMCS Ottawa passed through the Taiwan Strait under surveillance by a Chinese guided-missile destroyer, CNS Hohhot

American and Canadian ships recently crossed the Taiwan Strait. This is reported by the United States Naval Institute with reference to the statement of the U.S. 7th Fleet.

The guided-missile destroyer USS Ralph Johnson (DDG 114) and the frigate HMCS Ottawa (FFH 341) passed through the Taiwan Strait. The Canadian and American warships are based in Japan.

USS Ralph Johnson (DDG 114) and HMCS Ottawa (FFH 341) transited the corridor in the Taiwan Strait without entering the waters of any coastal state. This demonstrates the U.S. and allied commitment to ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific.

USS Ralph Johnson (DDG 114) and HMCS Ottawa (FFH 341) participated in the Noble Stingray trilateral military exercise. The large deck helicopter carrier JS Izumo (DDH 183) and destroyer JS Samidare (DDH 106) of the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force were sighted with them.

They were observed by a Chinese destroyer (pictured above) carrying Type 052D Luyang III-class guided missiles of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. The ship was identified as CNS Hohhot (161).
