An 18-year-old hacker who leaked GTA VI content online has been found insane and sentenced to indefinite confinement in an institution

In September 2022, the hacker group Lapsus$ hacked into Rockstar Games' servers and leaked a huge amount of information and videos about an early version of Grand Theft Auto VI.

Law enforcers detained eighteen-year-old cybercriminal Arion Kurtaj, who participated in the theft of data not only Rockstar, but also in the hacking of the digital infrastructure of Uber, Nvidia and BT-group.

Here's What We Know

The young hacker, while on bail and under police protection for hacking Nvidia and BT/EE, launched a cyberattack on Rockstar Games' servers. This is despite the fact that law enforcers confiscated his laptop, but Arion managed such a non-trivial task with the help of a smartphone, a hotel TV and an Amazon Fire Stick streaming device.

Arion Courtage came under investigation during which it was confirmed that he suffers from a severe form of autism and a number of mental disorders. The court ruled that the hacker's mental state, as well as his propensity to commit cybercrime, posed a threat to society, so Kurtaj was declared insane and sentenced to indefinite detention in a specialised medical facility. The young man will be released only when doctors recognise him as safe for society.
