Robo-truck maker Aurora has laid off 3 per cent of its workforce

US company Aurora Innovation, which develops technology for autonomous vehicles, has laid off about 3% of its workforce of about 1,800 employees.

An Aurora spokesperson confirmed the fact of the layoffs. According to him, this is part of the company's reorganisation ahead of the launch of commercial operations.

By doing so, Aurora intends to improve efficiency to meet its ambitious goals, including the deployment of a fleet of 20 unmanned trucks by the end of 2024.

The layoffs should not affect Aurora's plans; the company has sufficient liquidity after raising $820 million in investments in 2023. These funds are estimated to be sufficient until mid-2025, including the period of launching commercial operations.

However, a number of experts have previously expressed doubts about Aurora's ability to realise its ambitious plans for unmanned vehicles.
