Microsoft chief urged companies and authorities to co-operate to create safe AI

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella believes that the technology sector, government and society must join forces to ensure the safe use of artificial intelligence capabilities.

According to him, there needs to be a global agreement on the norms for the use of AI. This will allow law enforcement agencies and companies to effectively counteract abuses.

"It is about global, societal convergence on certain norms" said the Microsoft director.

Nadella commented on the recent incidents with the spread of fake AI-generated images of celebrities. He called the situation alarming and emphasised that it is necessary to fight such misuse of technology more actively.

As far as job replacement is concerned, for Nadella, generative AI is more of a tool than a danger. He sees the technology as a human assistant, which is why Microsoft's chatbot is called "Copilot" and not "Autopilot," he noted.

"This is not about replacing the human in the loop. In fact, it’s about empowering the human" Nadella added.

The Microsoft chief also touched upon the topic of copyright protection in the face of new AI capabilities. In his opinion, the key in this area is the balance of interests of copyright holders and technology developers.

Earlier, the New York Times sued Microsoft and OpenAI, accusing them of illegal use of protected content for training chatbots. The companies do not share this position.
