Apple confirms iOS 17.4 removes Home Screen web apps in EUC

Last month, iPhone users in the European Union noticed that they could no longer install or run web apps on their iPhone's home screen with iOS 17.4. With the upgrade to iOS 17. 4, web tips can now only function as bookmarks that open a new tab in your browser.4, web tips added to the Home screen now act only as bookmarks that open a new tab in your browser, rather than (potentially) standalone services that can perform actions such as pushing messages and displaying icons. However, one of the unpopular innovations is the suspension of support for programmes downloaded from the browser to Home Screen in EUC countries.

Although Apple has been adding functionality to support advanced web programmes on the iPhone for years, it has been forced to withdraw this capability due to the requirements of new legislation on digital markets. Apple argues that this is a security risk, noting that "malicious web software can read data from other web programs and update their permissions to access a user's camera, microphone, or location without the user's consent.
