YouTube's picture-in-picture mode may soon be available to everyone
Many non-Premium subscription users have started to notice the PiP (Picture-in-Picture) option in their Youtube apps in Europe.
Here's What We Know
Some Reddit users have started reporting that they have the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature, even though they don't have a Premium subscription. In another thread, there are users from Europe who have also come across this functionality. But there is no confirmation yet that the move is official. After all, until a couple of days ago, YouTube's X/Twitter account said that a Premium subscription was a prerequisite for accessing PiP outside the US, and another tweet on the same day echoes a similar sentiment.

YouTube previously allowed users to access PiP on Android for many years, but certain restrictions were later introduced that meant customers who didn't subscribe to Premium couldn't access the mode. This changed in 2022, but only for US customers, and YouTube users in other markets still required a Premium subscription to access PiP. YouTube had previously updated its iPhone and iPad apps to add PiP back in July 2022. However, the platform said at the time that users without Premium in the US would be able to access PiP for all "non-music content". Thus, it's likely that YouTube is providing the same solution to YouTube users outside of the US.
However, since the company has yet to officially comment on this, it's too early to say whether this option will be widely available to all YouTube users outside the US.
