Has the culprit behind Payday 3's failure been found? Starbreeze studio CEO fired

The release of co-op shooter Payday 3 was arguably one of the gaming industry's biggest failures in 2023, on par with Redfall, Forspoken, Immortals of Aveum and, of course, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.

The new game from Starbreeze Entertainment is distinguished not only by its poor technical condition, but also by a critical lack of content and controversial decisions of the developers, due to which Payday 3 is played by 85 times fewer gamers than Payday 2, which was released in 2013.

Well, Starbreeze Entertainment seems to have found the culprit for the crime shooter's failure.

Here's What We Know

Starbreeze's board of directors decided to fire the studio's CEO Tobias Sjögren, who headed the company for almost four years.

Juergen Goeldner will be temporarily acting head of Starbreeze.

The press release doesn't say what was the reason for Sjögren's dismissal, but apart from the failure of Payday 3 there are no apparent reasons for such a drastic decision. However, it does say that the company needs new leadership to implement a new business concept.
