Spotify introduces Miniplayer for PC users
This new feature allows users to instantly control music playback without having to open the main application window.
Here's What We Know
Spotify Miniplayer offers a pop-up window with audio controls such as changing tracks, selecting playlists, and adjusting volume. This feature is already available to users with a paid subscription and can be found by simply clicking on the square in the bottom right corner of the app.
This new feature potentially reduces the need to use third-party apps such as Alfred Spotify Mini Player, Lofi Spotify Mini Player and SpotMenu. These applications were developed to compensate for the lack of a similar feature in Spotify, which some users considered a significant gap in the music streaming service's functionality. For example, in 2019, a request in the Spotify community for this feature received more than 3,000 upvotes.
It is worth noting that a competing service, Apple Music, has already offered an equivalent MiniPlayer for macOS and Windows operating systems for many years. Finally, Spotify decided to respond to these needs of its users.
Currently, the MiniPlayer is only available for Premium subscribers, but Spotify may consider extending this functionality to other users in the future.
