Google has implemented the Gemini Pro language model into the Android Studio chatbot, which is supposed to help developers write software code.

Here's What We Know

Google announced this integration back at the I/O developer conference in May 2023. Gemini will be available in the Android Studio Jellyfish version of Android Studio in over 180 countries.

Google had already updated its Bard chatbot in February, upgrading to the more advanced Gemini Pro model.

Similar to Studio Bot, the new Gemini bot will be built directly into the IDE (integrated development environment), allowing developers to ask it coding-related questions. According to Google, this should help improve code completion, debugging, resource sourcing and documentation writing.

However, developers will need to log in and give permission to use Gemini. The chatbot's responses will also depend on the context and dialogue history provided.

In addition, Google will provide developers with a Gemini API starter template so that they can add generative AI features to their applications.

The move demonstrates Google's commitment to compete with tools like GitHub Copilot in its development products. The company had earlier unveiled the PaLM-2-based Codey assistant to answer questions about Google's programming and cloud services.
