A prequel to Star Trek under the direction of the Black Mirror director has been officially announced
At CinemaCon it was officially announced that work has begun on the Star Trek origin film, which will be directed by Toby Haynes, known for his work on Andor and the U.S.S. Callister episode of Black Mirror.
Here's What We Know
While "Star Trek 4" is still in development, Paramount decided to expand the universe even further and release a prequel. It is reported that the events of the tape will develop decades earlier than in the 2009 "Star Trek" film.
The script for the film will be written by the author of "Vampire Hunter" Seth Grahame-Smith. Details of the plot is not yet disclosed.
As a reminder, "Star Trek 4" was supposed to be directed by Matt Shakman, but he left the project in August 2022, at the same time he was set to direct the new "Fantastic Four." Last month, Variety reported that Steve Yockey, the writer of "Sucker Punch" and "Supernatural," is set to pen the script for the fourth instalment of Star Trek.
Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and the rest of the cast are expected to return to the film.
When We Can Expect It
The Star Trek origin film does not have an exact release date yet.
