Tesla has significantly lowered the monthly subscription price for its Full Self Driving (FSD) semi-autonomous driving system. It is now $99 instead of the previous $199.
Here's What We Know
Tesla introduced a monthly fee for the FSD option in 2021, when its self-driving system was in beta stage. Previously, the subscription cost $199 per month. The full cost of the FSD (Supervised) system itself is $12,000, so with the new rate, the payback period for the subscription has dropped from 5 to 10 years.

Experts say the price cut is likely an attempt by Tesla to make its electric cars and stock more attractive to consumers. In the first quarter of 2024, Tesla's deliveries fell 8 per cent year-on-year and 20 per cent from the end of 2023, falling short of analysts' expectations.
In addition, from March this year, Tesla sellers in North America are required to demonstrate the Full Self Driving (Supervised) feature to all new car buyers. Also, prices for Tesla Model Y models have increased by $1,000 from 1 April.
