A Mexican man bought Cartier earrings worth $28,000 for $28: How it happened
Mexican Rogelio Villarreal bought two pairs of expensive earrings from Cartier for a pittance - only $28. Cartier listed the wrong price on its website - $28 instead of $28,000.
Here's What We Know
According to the buyer, he came across the inexpensive earrings while browsing Instagram.
Cartier refused to recognise the purchase and offered to refund the purchase price, as well as to give a bottle of fine champagne and an elegant premium leather document case as compensation. However, this offer did not satisfy the man, who decided to contact the Mexican Consumer Protection Agency.
After a thorough review of the case, the agency ruled in favour of the buyer, recognising his right to receive the goods at the price he had asked for. After four months of struggle, Dr Rogelio Villarreal said he had finally received the jewellery.
This story is an example of how important it is to protect your consumer rights, even when it comes to large companies.
