Ukraine has about one hundred Leopard 1 tanks in service
Despite the difficulties with the supply and restoration of equipment, Ukraine has already received up to one hundred units of these combat vehicles, and by the end of 2024, their number will increase significantly.
Here's What We Know
According to representatives of FFG, the company responsible for the restoration and modernisation of tanks, most of the promised vehicles have already been delivered - at least 60 out of 110 tanks. In addition, an additional batch of vehicles will soon arrive in Ukraine.
According to an official response from the Danish Ministry of Defence, in addition to the above-mentioned vehicles, Denmark has upgraded and transferred another 30 tanks. This means that Ukraine has approximately 90 tanks of this type in total.
By the end of June this year, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive another 20, and by the end of the summer - 45. Thus, in 2024, the Ukrainian army will have 135 repaired and modernised Leopard 1 tanks.
The Leopard 1 tanks were decommissioned by European countries back in the 1980s and have been sitting in open-air storage for a long time. It is clear that after so many years in storage, they are in need of major upgrades and repairs before they can be used.
